The Seychelles SUBIOS Event 2011

SUBIOS or the Sub Indian Ocean Seychelles Underwater Film and Image Festival was the was an amazing idea by Mr. Philippe Blanchard.

In 1989 Philippe and a special Seychelles committee put together a festival that would highlight Seychelles'  marine world, and put Seychelles on the map as an ideal diving destination. But it was not an event that would merely attract tourist it was devised as well to educate the local Seychelles population on the beauty of the underwater world they are so fortunate to have. Every year since the SUBIOS festival launch it has grown in size and has attracted filmmakers, photographers, journalists and ecologists from all over the world.

The SUBIOS festival is an annual week long event in the Seychelles usually held in early November and highlights underwater film and image combining a range of daytime diving and snorkelling activities with free evening programmes of films, video and slide presentations by acclaimed guest speakers from around the world as well as local Seychellois.

SUBIOS 2011 promises to deliver even more by hosting a variety of events and presentations throughout the period of the festival. It will also include several photographic and video graphic contests for visitors and locals alike in the ‘Best Image’, ‘Best Video’, ‘Best Image of Seychelles’ and ‘Best Local Video’ categories.
