Earth Hour on Saturday March 26th 2011 will unite people all over the world in one common purpose to show WE CARE ABOUT OUR PLANET AND CLIMATE CHANGE. Traditionally earth hour is exactly that one hour where we turn off lights and appliances. But this year the organisers want us to go beyond the hour, and think about the small changes we can make in our lives to make a difference for our planet.
They Seychelles Islands are participating in Earth Hour and some of the major environmental and energy companies have organised and branded Earth Hour in True Creole Spirit by organising a Moutia open to the general public on Saturday Night at Beau Vallon Beach.
For those who do not know about the traditional Moutia dance of the Seychelles: The moutia dates back to the days of slavery. Two men told stories about the hard labors of the day. Women then joined in to dance, accompanied by singing and chanting. Modern performances still involve dancing to typical African rhythms.
The Local Seychelles Public Utilities Corporation are hoping to see a significant decrease in usage on Saturday night and will monitor the impact of the Seychellois to Earth Hour 2011.
Chalets d' Anse Forbans will also be participating in Earth Hour 2011 by encouraging all guests to switch off their lights during this hour and furthermore take this beyond the hour by planting more trees and expanding our vegetable garden that is open to our guest to purchase fresh vegetables.
