The 8th Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) is taking place in the Seychelles this year and is now just days away.
The Seychelles Islands are in full steam ahead and currently renovating, repairing and getting ready to welcome the athletes to the 8th Indian Ocean Island Games. They Seychelles last hosted the games in 1993.
The opening ceremony will take place on August 5th and the closing ceremony will be on August 14th .The big event officially starts on the 8th of August 2011. The Games guarantee to attract participants and supporters from all around the region.Some of the sports that will be taking place will include running, high jumps, boxing, weightlifting, swimming, basketball, volleyball and much more.
Once all the renovations are completed the Olympic Size Swimming Pool is believed to be one of the best in the region (reported by Today Seychelles 07/07/2011) the venue will also now be able to host 900 spectators. The Palace de Sports located at Roche Caiman, just outside of the capital of Mahe, Victoria will enjoy a new roof, new flooring and have a total seating capacity of 2000. The Palace de Sports will be used mainly for Volleyball and Basketball.The newly renovated Victoria Gymnasium will host 300 spectators and be used for Boxing as well as Volleyball and Basketball. Freedom Square Gymnasium in the heart of Victoria, will host primarily the weight lighting contests.
Loads of preparations currently going on and we are sure the Seychelles will host one of the best Indian Ocean Islands Games.
