Seychelles is a member of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Each year, on the 22nd of May, the world celebrates an ‘International Biodiversity Day’. This year’s theme was ‘Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’. The Seychelles Ministry of Environment and Climate Change partnered with the Seychelles Tourism Department and organised a seminar on ‘Sustainable Tourism Development’.  The Ministry selected a few hotels to present their contributions and Chalets d Anse Forbans was honoured to be asked to present at this seminar.

Mrs Brigitte Haworth, the manager of Chalets d’ Anse Forbans delivered a PowerPoint presentation detailing all the measures that Chalets d Anse Forbans had implemented to enhance a more ‘green Seychelles’ within their sector of tourism.

Chalets d’ Anse Forbans published their Environmental Policy in September 2011 and distributed this to all their partners. Since then they have continuously educated their staff and clients on sustainable tourism. They have also sourced new materials to be more environmentally friendly and constantly monitor turtles and turtle nests along their protected hawksbill turtle nesting beach. They have also been active in the protection of the Seychelles Kestrel as well as maintaining of their wetlands. Chalets d Anse Forbans has been supporting the local community and in 2014 assisted the Seychelles Children’s Council in sponsoring key speaker Jes Foorde while in the Seychelles, they have also continuously donated to different charities and foundations in need in the Seychelles. Just to mention a few of the slides presented in the seminar.

The Seychelles Minister of Environment and Climate Change Mr. Didier Dogley told the audience at the end of their Chalets d Anse Forbans presentation that “They where leading a silent revolution in aiding our tourism sustainability.” Chalets d Anse Forbans has also been referred to as the “Champions in the fight of conservation,” by Mr Ronny Jumeau - Seychelles Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues.

Chalets d’ Anse Forbans ended their presentation by stating: “We are small, we are Seychellois and we are trying to make a difference in our beautiful country. We started with NO budget but with dedication we feel we have achieved A LOT. We don’t have any official certificates for what we do but this will not STOP us taking our steps to educate and a make a difference. We feel you need to be passionate to make a difference and not just trying to chase a certificate of recognition. We do this for the LOVE of Seychelles and our people.”

Chalets d’ Anse Forbans offers Seychelles Self Catering Beach Chalets on the main island of Mahe Seychelles. They are very fortunate to have their 16 rooms located on a Hawksbill Turtle nesting beach enabling many of their guests to see turtles either beaching to lay eggs or hatchlings making their way to the ocean.  Just 25m from the high water mark you are just steps from the amazing beach of Anse Forbans.
