5 Great Reasons to stay on Mahe Island @ Chalets d Anse Forbans

Flag of the Seychelles Islands
Welcome to the main island of the Seychelles Mahe Island. A granitic island with hosts the capital of the Seychelles namely that of Victoria.

What are the 5 great reasons to stay on Mahe Island? To cram them into 5 is very difficult but here we go...

1. Seychelles International Airport- Arrive from your long flight and be on the main island to start your holiday no worries to take another flight straight away. Island hopping is very easy from Mahe with the choice of ferry - Cat Coco or flying with Air Seychelles to the next main island of Praslin. Rest up and island hop at your leisure.

2. Visit the smallest capital - Victoria- The capital of Victoria is named after Queen Victoria and you will still see some of the colonial influence in architecture such as the court buildings and some of the church buildings. Feel right at home as the capital hosts a multitude of languages and you will hear English, French, German, Italian and of course the local dialect of Creole spoken when walking around Victoria. Do take a walk pass the " mini big Ben" located in the heart of the capital. It is a replica of the Big Ben located in London. One thing you will learn about the Seychelles is life is at a slow pace. Why rush you have tomorrow!!

Fish Market Victoria Seychelles

3. Selwyn Selwyn Clarke Fish Market- This is most definitely a most do when on holiday in Seychelles and visiting Victoria on Mahe Island. The market is named after an Englishman who was a doctor and served in WW1 and in WW2. He was then later appointed Governor of the Seychelles. The market is definitely a magnet for the culture of the Seychelles. It is busting with noise, colour and lots of fresh fish stalls as well as fruit, spices and even Curios. Open aired no air conditioning very different to many fish markets around the world. Sit back and enjoy the bustle below by stopping in the local cafe/restaurant located above the fish market.Take in some more of the curio shops but do just sit back relax and take in the life of the local Seychellios or Creole people going about their daily lives.

4. National Parks of the Seychelles and on Mahe Island- Moving away from some of the bustle of the "City Life" and finding Heaven on earth. Seychelles hosts 2 terrestrial National Parks and 6 Marine National parks. Located on Mahe Island you will find Morne Seychellois National Park and Port Launay Marine National Park. Just off the island of Mahe you will be able to enjoy the St Anne Marine National Park- great to take a day trip on the glass bottom boats and then if you island hop from Mahe to Silhouette you will enjoy the Silhouette Island Marine National Park. The National Parks of the Seychelles are world renowned. The Seychelles has over half its land mass as protected areas so you can only imagine the true beauty this country hosts.
